Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve


TRAIL CLOSURE: Pine Hollow Trail is closed for the extended deer season. It will reopen January 26, 2025.

Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, 614 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh PA 15238, is the headquarters of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. 

ASWP manages and operates the five miles of trails and 134 acres of sanctuary at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve under a lease agreement with property holder, The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Its facilities include Educational Classrooms, Audubon Nature Store, Audubon Center for Native Plants, DiscoverGround Nature Play Area, Teacher Resource Center, and Natural History Library.

Beechwood is also the site of our unique Outdoor Discovery field trips for school children. Please note: dogs are not permitted on our hiking trails.

Directions

From Pittsburgh: Take Route 28 North from downtown Pittsburgh. Take exit 5B, Route 8 North/Butler. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Kittaning Road. Continue up Kittaning Road for 4.5 miles - it will become Dorseyville Road without any notification. Beechwood will be on your left.

From North and West: From the Pennsylvania Turnpike Exit 39 (Butler), take Route 8 South for 3 miles, toward Pittsburgh. At the intersection of Harts Run Road and Route 8, take a left. Follow Harts Run Road approximately 3.7 miles until it dead ends into Dorseyville Road. Turn right on Dorseyville Road and proceed 1/8 of a mile to Beechwood, on your right.

From the East: Take Pennsylvania Turnpike exit 48 (New Kensington/Pittsburgh). Bear right at the exit to go south on Freeport Road. Proceed 1.0 miles and turn right at a traffic light onto Guys Run Road and proceed 4.1 miles. (During this stretch, Guys Run Road will become Fox Chapel Road/Green Belt at a Y; bear slight right at the Y.) Fox Chapel Road ends at a T into Dorseyville Road. Take a left onto Dorseyville Road and proceed 7/10 of a mile to Beechwood, which is on the right.
