Adult Eco-Series: Dendrology in the Field

Saturday, March 7, 10:00 am--12:00 pm

Dendrology is not just the study of trees, but of all woody plants. Explore the methods and techniques that naturalists use to identify trees, shrubs, and vines in the field, and learn about woody plant physiology across the seasons.
$2 for members; $5 per nonmember


Volunteer Naturalist Training

Mondays, March 26 through April 27 (except April 13), 9:30 to 2:30

Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club: Carnivorous and Cannibalistic Fungi

Tuesday, March 17, 7:00 pm

Club mycologist, John Plischke III, will discuss fungi that grow on other mushrooms, people, plants, and insects, whose outward appearances belie aggressive behavior.

Scout Special Topic: Maple Sugaring

Saturday, March 21, 10:00 am-12:00 pm

Experience science and history as you discover the maple sugaring process. Learn about maple tree physiology, and compare production methods used by Native Americans, pioneers and modern industry. Reservations are required. $5.00 per person


Fledglings: Down the Maple Trail

Thursday, March 26, 10:00 am 11:15 am

We're journeying to the sugar bush to learn where maple syrup comes from! This program occurs mostly outside-dress warmly and wear your boots! Reservations are required. Age 3 to 5 plus adult caregiver. $8 per member pair; $10 per non member pair


Maple Madness

Saturday March 28, 10:00 am–3:00 pm

When the sap runs, it's maple syrup season! Our annual event features a pancake brunch and living history trail where the entire family can investigate the sweet mystery of turning sap to syrup. Reservations are requested.
All ages; $6 per member; $9 per nonmember
Children 2 and under are free
